What is IGNITE?

IGNITE is an event for youth and young adults that we hold at our Holly Street Chapel.
We transform the sanctuary into a rock concert venue, with stage lighting, creative artwork, an espresso bar, and other cool things.

We feel we owe this generation an encounter with God. God is a living God, who wants to invade our lives with His love and power.

The purpose of IGNITE is to create a non-religious environment where young people can encounter God. We seek to demonstrate the power of Jesus, by praying for people who need healing and prophesying into the lives of anyone who would like that ministry.

The events also features one or more Christian bands. We (either Richard Larcombe, or one of the other young adults on the IGNITE team) usually gives a talk about Jesus, and invites people to respond to the Gospel.

How much does the event cost?

IGNITE is free, however there is a $4 suggested donation that people can choose to pay if they'd like to help us pay the bands something.

Can adults help with IGNITE?

Absolutely! We really need help with IGNITE. Here are some ways to get involved, and if you are interested or have more questions just talk to Richard.

  • Prayer!!! We want this evangelistic event to be as fruitful as possible. So the main way to get involved is through prayer. We coordinate our 24 Prayer Watch to end as IGNITE starts each month, so signing up for a prayer slot is a great way to help us intercede for the event.
We also want intercessors in the prayer room during the event.
  • Set-Up, Tear-Down and Security. Transforming the building into a rock concert venue is a massive undertaking. Set up starts around 3pm, tear-down is usually over about 11.30pm.
We also need adults keeping an eye on the building and making sure this event is safe, etc. Please consider being on the security team.
  • Connecting and mentoring. If you don't mind LOUD music and you have a heart for young people, you may want to consider actually attending the events each month in order to talk to young people, engage with them, and relate at their level.
Young people need meaningful, authentic relationships with adults. We don't want IGNITE to exist as a totally seperate event outside of New Song Church -- we want these young people to be discipled and integrated into the body.
If you are interested in helping in this way, please talk to Richard first so we can keep track of how many adults are involved.

What about the MySpace Site?

The IGNITE website address is: www.MySpace.com/IgniteConnect

Some parents are understandably concerned about their children using MySpace. We agree that MySpace, like any other place on the Internet, has some dangers that parents should be aware of. Some of the click ads to dating sites are not helpful for young minds, and young people should always avoid posting personal or private information about themselves anyware on the internet, and MySpace is certainly no exception.

However, our vision for IGNITE is to reach young people where they are at with the Love of God. And MySpace is the most popular website on the planet for people within our target age group. We have found that being on MySpace is an amazing way for totally un-churched kids to hear about IGNITE and get connected. It's a fantastic tool for networking and connecting -- and so why shouldn't we redeem it for the Kingdom!?
